Giants Women vs Leeds Rhinos | Match Report

Huddersfield Giants Women continue through to the Challenge Cup Quarter Finals despite 54-10 loss to Leeds Rhinos at West Park Leeds RUFC.

The first 10 minutes of the game were a fairly contested affair. The Giants were giving as much as the Rhinos were taking.

Former Giant Izzy Northrop was the first to break the deadlock, shaking off defenders in her path. Ruby Enright took up kicking duties to score her first goal of the afternoon.

Sam Hulme's kick in the 15th offset the best of the Leeds players. Amelia Brown was on hand to scoop and sprint a solid 20 before the bold offload to Frankie Townend to gain more metres. Later on in the set, Brown crashed over in the corner but was deemed in touch.

Giants' defence wore against the tough Rhinos, allowing 4 tries in quick succession from Zoe Hornby, Lucy Murray, Amy Hardcastle and Tara Moxon.

England winger Brown scored a classic try from a linebreak to keep the visitors within range of a potential comeback. The dash under the sticks gave Townend an easy kick for the 6-point effort.

Former Giant Shona Hoyle crossed the line to start the following 40, a crash from the second-rower getting Leeds up and running. Converted by Enright.

This time Lori Halloran's side couldn't react quickly enough to the opposition, conceeding a hat-trick of tries from Northtrop, Bethan Dainton and Liv Whitehead.

Brown struck back in the right edge in the dying seconds of the game to settle scores 54-10.

Despite the loss - their only one this year - the Giants are through to the Women's Challenge Cup Quarter Finals where they will play St Helens (Timings & Venue TBC).
